About RFMG

In 2002, Marla Cusack took her two greatest passions, food and accounting, as the foundation for Restaurant Financial Management Group (RFMG), a Los Angeles-based firm catering to the financial and accounting needs of the restaurant industry. RFMG quickly gained a diverse high-profile clientele with cuisines ranging from Asian to Italian, French to Mexican, and from bakeries to seafood. Annual sales for RFMG’s current clients vary from 1.5 to 13 million dollars. RFMG has since expanded to work within the hotel industry. 

Among the team at RFMG there are three Certified Public Accountants (CPA). Their combined experience includes working with companies ranging from start-ups to fine dining and multi-location establishments. They also have an understanding of the income tax laws that are specific to the restaurant industry. The firm's lead team— Cusack, Cordova and Nishi— oversee the dedicated group at RFMG; everyone at RFMG works carefully and closely with their clients to manage financials while allowing restaurateurs, entrepreneurs, and hoteliers to dedicate their energy to creating a dining or hospitality experience that will have customers coming back time and time again.

FOUNDER

Marla Cusack, CPA

In 1988, Marla became the Controller at the popular Hollywood eatery The Columbia Bar and Grill, beginning down a unique career path that would lead her to open Restaurant Financial Management Group (RFMG) in 2002. Today, Marla continues to work at the helm of the Los Angeles-based company.

Born and raised in the Los Angeles area, Marla graduated from USC in 1984 with a BS in Accounting, and soon thereafter she began her business career at Deloitte & Touche. During this time she also earned her CPA. After serving as Controller for The Columbia Bar and Grill for three years, Marla began providing services for the Famiglia Toscana Restaurant Group, including Rosti and Toscana in Brentwood, in 1991. During this time, she also provided accounting services for a number of high profile restaurants in Southern California. Marla was promoted to Vice President of Finance for the Famiglia Toscana Restaurant Group in 1994 and became involved in the redesign of the Accounting System in order to grow the Rosti concept from 1 location to 9 locations. In 2002, Marla formed Restaurant Financial Management Group (RFMG). Today, RFMG has a dedicated team of 14 professionals who are passionate about guiding restaurateurs to success.

Susy Cordova, CPA

Susy Cordova joined RFMG in 2017 after leadership positions in both private and public accounting. She most recently worked for 12 years as CFO and Director of Finance for two construction-related companies with $250M+ in revenue, after spending 15 years in public accounting beginning with Deloitte & Touche, LLP. Susy received her undergraduate degree in Economics with an emphasis in Accounting from UC-Santa Barbara. An interest in the creative side of helping companies minimize their tax liabilities led Susy to obtain her Master's degree in taxation from Golden Gate University, and she has been doing tax work since 1988. At RFMG, Susy is able to creatively employ her skills, with diverse business owners, in accounting and tax
planning.

Susy enjoys working closely with her entrepreneurial clients to help them manage their business and tackle the unique challenges associated with restaurant ownership and management. The services she provides can start as early as the concept phase financial models, to helping with the preparation of budgets and forecasts during the key construction phase, and continue into the restaurant's daily operations as she assists with day-to-day finances. Susy also understands the tax requirements specific to the restaurant industry.

Michael Nishi, CPA

Michael Nishi joined RFMG in 2018 after serving as Chief Financial Officer for several emerging restaurant companies in Southern California and Tokyo. His work has spanned the industry from franchised QSR, fast-casual, casual and fine-dining. After working as a CFO for nearly two decades, he relishes the opportunity to help RFMG’s clients to successfully manage their businesses through strategic and financial planning, budgeting and forecasting, operational analysis and systems implementation.

Michael received his degree in Economics with an emphasis in accounting from UCLA. He lives in Thousand Oaks with his wife of 16 years and three children.
